Suppressor Myths & Facts

Chart comparing suppressed and unsuppressed decibel levels

Myth: Suppressors make guns silent

Nope. Even suppressed, most guns land around 110–135 dB. That’s still loud, just not ear-damaging loud.

Myth: Suppressors are for criminals

They’re a lousy tool for crime. A can adds 5–10 inches of length, gets hot fast, adds weight up front and doesn’t make a gun more deadly.

Myth: They ruin accuracy

Most cans shift your point of impact a little. Zero with it on and you’re good. Many shooters actually shoot better with less recoil.

Fact: They’re safety gear

Suppressors protect hearing for shooters, bystanders and dogs, cut range noise for neighbors, and make it easier for new shooters to learn. In much of Europe, they’re just good manners.
